Job Description Summary

Responsible for sanitation requirements for machinery, equipment, and facilities. Develops and maintains plant sanitation programs and procedures. Collaborates with engineers, suppliers, contractors, and plant partners to ensure a clean and sterile facility. Assures compliance with regulatory agencies regarding sanitation requirements and the use of cleaning and exterminating agents. Responsible for managing and owning various functions of the business and creating an engaged and team-oriented work force in order to improve business results. Supports plant community outreach and engagement events.

Job Description

Individuals in this position must be able to perform the following duties:

Sanitation and Pest Control

  • Lead and manage the sanitation and pest control programs, systems, procedures, and databases for the facility. 
  • Manage development of standard work, training, cleaning validation, identification of operational savings, line cleaning change-over, and turn-around efficiencies supporting improvements in plant total delivered cost. 
  • Manage a set of matrix relationships within facility (Quality, Production, and Maintenance) and influence senior management on alignment of strategies, annual objectives, and project plans. 
  • Plan and execute extended outage activities in conjunction with other departments (Quality, Production, and Maintenance).
  • Direct contracted service providers: Sanitation/Chemical, Pest Control, Lawn Maintenance, and Plumbing.
  • Audit work at set frequencies to ensure proper service is provided.   
  • Minimum contact expectations of weekly for pest control and each end of cycle cleanup for sanitation/chemicals.
  • Manage chemical inventories and order as needed using SAP.
  • Increase measurement and improvement of sanitation performance (e.g., KPIs and sanitation performance standards). 
  • Understand and execute the Sanitation requirements for changeovers, non-GMO cleanups, allergen clean ups, and end of cycle clean ups.
  • Utilize technical skills and experience to troubleshoot sanitation and pest control issues.
  • Oversee and manage outside grounds and upkeep (site standards). Examples include painting, power washing, weeding, etc.
  • Evaluate sanitation investment opportunities for capital planning process.
  • Investigate spill point incidents for root cause and long-term prevention.
  • Fully execute functions as outlined in the Sanitation Team Leader standard work document (MDF 103.325.Vxx).

2.   Food Safety Program Management

  • Conduct annual reviews and updates to the Sanitation and Pest Control prerequisite programs for the Food Safety Plan to drive constant improvement and compliance with changing regulations.
  • Support and be plant liaison for corporate food safety initiatives.
  • Lead and manage site team through preparation and execution of all third-party facility and regulatory audits, including, but not limited to, Organic, BRC, FDA, and Customer Audits.
  • Lead plant overall conformance to regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Be an active participant in the internal auditing program to drive continuous improvement.
  • Drive training activities to advance Food Safety awareness throughout site.
  • Provide strong technical feedback for Food Safety-related concerns.
  • Support Food Safety Thursday initiative as needed.

3.   Continuous Improvement

  • Coach and mentor Sanitation Specialists in Peer to Peer and Shift Direction Setting.
  • Participate in AMD events and support the development and maintenance of Sanitation owned Running and Stopped CIL’s.
  • Participate in Food Safety & Quality Pillar team activities, driving results with ninety-day plans. (Maintains the role of back up pillar owner.)
  • Develop and maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule in SAP.
  • Support capital projects for updates to Food Safety Plan and execution of sanitation validation.
  • Participate in Early Management Pillar team activities.
  • Manage development plans for direct reports to maximize department output.
  • In conjunction with Shift Team Leaders, responsible for all employee evaluations in the Sanitation department. 
  • Routinely participate in business unit and corporate led network teams to advance sanitation.
  • Conduct sanitation records reviews after each cleanup and before plant startups.
  • Provides daily coaching and mentorship to employees within the sanitation department to support plant operations and drive continuous improvement in systems and processes.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Certifications: (Required & Preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in Food Science or a related technical field.
  • Relevant work experience will also be considered in lieu of degree.
  • HACCP and/or PCQI Certificate. (both preferred)
  • Internal Auditing Certificate. (preferred)


Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Basic understanding of the 7 steps of sanitation.
  • Basic understanding of chemicals used for cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Familiarity with sanitary design, chemical, and safety program requirements.
  • SAP experience. (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Previous experience writing and implementing Food Safety Plans and SSOP’s. (strongly preferred)
  • Previous experience responding to 3rd Party (BRC, Customer) Non-conformances. (strongly preferred)
  • Experience leading GFSI and Regulatory audits. (preferred)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to stand in front of large groups to deliver key messages, deliver training, and report out KPI’s as needed.
  • Familiar with the Fundamentals of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.


Qualifications

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.    
  • Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature.  
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments to include:  loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies.  
  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.    
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.    
  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.  Ability to operate work related equipment.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  
  • Valid Driver’s License and driving record that meets Lamb Weston Driving Standards  
  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation.  
  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range posted based on various factors, including, but not limited to, job duties, experience and expertise. A candidate's work location could also impact the actual compensation being outside of the range to reflect local cost of labor. A reasonable annual estimate of the range for this role is listed below.

Pay Rate or Range: $68,780.00 - $103,180.00
