Job Description Summary
This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all equipment located within the production area of the facility and for performing maintenance functions throughout the plant as assigned or directed by supervisory personnel, while working under limited supervision.
Job Description
- Always maintains safe work practices and participates in safety programs. Assures that safe work practices are followed in all work groups. Abides by all company work, safety, and hygiene rules and regulations as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Performs routine and/or non-routine tasks established by the Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Team Leader Maintenance, Velocity Maintenance Lead, Team Leader Area Production, Team Leader Quality, Team Leader Production, and the Maintenance Lead.
- May be required to perform emergency repairs with minimal supervision.
- Keeps documentation up to date.
- Accurately tracks time spent working on tasks throughout the day.
- Familiar with proper start-up and shut down of production equipment.
- Performs equipment repair, overhaul, and troubleshooting of mechanical and technical equipment; changes and replaces belts, sprockets, bearings, chains, motors, etc.
- Evaluates equipment for performance, performs adjustments, replaces parts, etc. as needed to assure uninterrupted production of quality potato products.
- Performs structurally-sound welds and acceptable cutting, using appropriate cutting and welding equipment.
- May be required to work any shift, any and all days of the week, or overtime in the accordance with production and maintenance schedules.
- Reads and understands prints, sketches, diagrams, operating instructions, and technical manuals.
- Maintains a neat, orderly work area.
- Follow instructions given in work logs, work orders, and equipment manuals.
- Supports and promotes CPS programs such as 5S and Centerlining throughout the plant.
- Give direction and training to lower bracketed mechanics as needed.
- Communicates and works with other associates in a positive manner.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage. Must read, write, and communicate in English.
- Have the ability and willingness to follow instructions.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Must have basic electronic and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Set up and weld mild & stainless steel in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions with SMAW, MIG & TIG welders.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Properly use all basic hand tools, power hand tools, and shop tools (not to include machine tools).
- Set-up and cut with oxyacetylene.
- Perform basic plumbing runs and repairs.
- Be knowledgeable of basic mechanical nomenclature.
- Perform basic sheet metal layout and fabrication.
- Be knowledgeable of the potential hazards and safety procedures associated with the task.
- Must be able to operate a forklift and man lift in a safe manner. Requires plant certification.
- Must attend confined space training (attendant, entrant and rescuer) and will be a confined space rescue team member.
- Will be a Respirator User and is responsible to meet the qualifications requirements of the Lamb Weston Respiratory Protection Program for the use of Respiratory Protection Equipment (current medical, fit testing, and training).
- Will be an Emergency Response Team Member (Hazardous Materials Technician) and will be responsible to meet the qualification requirements per 29 CFR 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (current medical and training).
- Must be clean shaven when the Emergency Response Team is activated for an emergency response or responding to emergencies, using an on-site shave kit to use a tight-fitting facepiece. Must be clean shave for the annual respirator fit test. Mustaches and sideburns are permitted, only if they do not extend into the sealing periphery or interfere with the valve functions of the respirator.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds six feet above the ground.
Valid Driver’s License and driving record that meets Lamb Weston Driving Standards.
Knowledge of tools

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $32.61
