Job Description Summary
The purpose of the Health & Safety Team Leader is to provide support to the Lamb Weston Environmental, Health and Safety organization within the Hermiston Lamb Weston facility. This position will report to the Safety and Health Manager.
Job Description
- Analyzes incident data to determine trends, top losses, and corrective actions needed. Leads or participates in execution of identified corrective actions.
- Collaborates with and supports Line Structure Teams and departments to eliminate losses and proactively prevent injuries and close identified gaps.
- Lead and participate in safety processes and program development. Where safety connects to other processes and programs the expectation is to be an active leader or participant in those activities as well.
- Participates in cross-functional teams to ensure effective implementation of safety initiatives and processes.
- Identifies potential causes of accidents and recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illness.
- Investigates incidents and prepares incident reports or alerts, and relevant communication to the Lamb Weston platform.
- Is a resource to supervisors and team members and participates in facility off-shift support. Ability to work various shifts occasionally.
- Be active in leading, training and performing area risk assessments, behavior observations, and program and process health checks.
- Provides technical support in the identification, evaluation, and control of occupational safety and health hazards.
- Trains employees in safety and health requirements to ensure compliance with regulations and supports the training department in annual team member retraining.
- Develops and assists management in the effective implementation and compliance of the Safety & Health programs and procedures.
- Performs employee exposure monitoring, ergonomic assessments, and chemical procurement assessments.
- Maintains and calibrates industrial hygiene equipment.
- Supports the Safety Committee structure, providing guidance to ensure work streams and discussions support the committee’s goal and core values.
- Issues and monitors hot work permits and confined space entry permits.
- Conducts periodic inspections of the energy control procedures to ensure that the procedure and the requirements of the LOTO standard are being followed.
- Develops and monitors emergency action plans.
- Synthesizes complex or diverse information; Collects and researches data; Uses intuition and experience to complement data; Designs workflows and procedures.
- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Varies writing style to meet needs; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information.
- Other tasks as assigned by Safety and Health Manager.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required or in-progress, preferably in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health or a related discipline.
- Prefer some work or intern experience in an industrial or food manufacturing setting.
- Intermediate experience in a variety of computer programs such as: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

- Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range posted based on various factors, including, but not limited to, job duties, experience and expertise. A candidate’s work location could also impact the actual compensation being outside of the range to reflect local cost of labor. A reasonable annual estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $63,160.00 - $94,750.00
