Job Description Summary
The Plant HR Manager oversees the complete Human Resources function for their assigned location(s), provides HR guidance and leadership, and connects the wider HR global strategy with local initiatives at their plant facility.
Reporting to HR with a dotted line to the Plant Manager, this role manages the local HR team and is a key resource responsible for hiring, retaining, developing, and ensuring full engagement of all team members.
Duties also include accountability for direction, management, and financial success of the HR function at the plant by establishing and achieving current and long-term objectives, plans, and policies.
Job Description
- Serves as an integral member of plant leadership, accountable for the strategic direction, budget management, team member development, and continuous improvement of functional and key performance HR objectives that meet organizational and business goals for their plant facility.
- Manages HR processes, policies, employee relations issues, audits, and services in compliance with local and statutory laws and regulations.
- Manages labor relations activities and correspondence with the union, including grievance process, collective bargaining, and negotiations.
- Provides coaching, career planning, and guidance for team members through performance management, learning & development, and individual development planning (IDP) initiatives.
- Oversees team member compensation, promotions, organizational development, and rewards & recognition programs to encourage team member engagement and drive business objectives.
- Ensures consistent delivery/communication of employee benefits programs.
- Drives strategic workforce planning, skills development training, and succession planning initiatives to proactively align with and optimize business needs.
- Partners and collaborates on projects/programs with cross-functional HR peers, centers of excellence (COE), and business support functions including Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Payroll, Benefits, Finance, and Legal.
- May manage or provide strategic guidance pertaining to trade unions, local works councils, and/or other public institutions including reviewing proposals/contracts, employee relations issues, investigations, facilitating meetings/negotiations, and ensuring adherence with policies and procedures.
- Leads HR initiatives, champions change, and grows team member engagement to create a culture aligned with our values: Teamwork, Empowerment, Integrity, Inclusion, and a Drive for Results.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
- Advanced degree or certification specific to human resources preferred.
- 5-10 years of general human resources experience required.
- 3+ years of labor relations experience in a manufacturing environment (24-hour operation facility) required.
- Professional training or significant experience in union environment or collective bargaining required.
- Extensive experience with and knowledge of labor and employment laws and what is permissible and not permissible within labor relations.
- Experience managing grievance processes, union campaigns, and negotiations.
- Prior work experience ensuring and supporting HR compliance with local and statutory laws and regulations required.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal/collaborative skills required.
- Computer proficiency with software systems including but not limited to Human Resources Management Systems (HRMS), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) and/or other web-based applications required.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range posted based on various factors, including, but not limited to, job duties, experience and expertise. A candidate’s work location could also impact the actual compensation being outside of the range to reflect local cost of labor. A reasonable annual estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $101,730.00 - $152,600.00
