Job Description Summary
Our Taber plant is looking for new team members that are dedicated, hard working and ambitious people to help us continue to perform at the highest level possible and achieve our goals. This position will work a 12-hour compressed work week schedule from 7PM-7AM, with the possibility of advancement and shift changes in accordance with the company's advancement opportunities procedure.
Job Description
Our General Labour team is responsible for a wide variety of jobs including inspecting and sorting raw product, frozen product, handling finished product cases for rework, conduct clean-up and sanitation duties, and more. This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and repetitive use of hand/arms to sort through product. Must be able to scan and look for defects or foreign material while standing for long periods of time. These jobs may occur in any area of the plant or, on occasion, may require working in raw product storages or potato fields. These jobs require good physical stamina and are labor intensive in an often fast-paced work environment.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have acceptable work performance; must demonstrate safe work practices and have a safe work record; satisfactory attendance; and be able to safely perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Job duties include:
- Trims and inspects product appropriately.
- Removes any foreign material found during transfers and inspections, then notifies supervisor immediately if glass, metal and/or any other foreign material is found.
- Maintain sanitation in the work area as needed
- Clean work area as determined necessary (using the designated cleaning equipment and supplies as well as a high pressure water hose). Clean plant equipment as assigned during plant clean up.
- Operates process equipment and performs duties such as: Loading and unloading materials, parts, or products onto or from pallets, skids, conveyors, or trucks.
- Assists packaging operators.
- Assists as a fire watch attendant.
- Attend and/or complete mandatory safety training courses.
- Strips out product as necessary.
- Operate bulk blend back equipment.
- Snow removal.
- Assists field samplers.
- Cleans around work areas; assists sanitation laborers, maintain good housekeeping.
- Maintains/Promotes safe work practices at all times.
- Fully participates in daily safety engagement.
- Fill out, maintain and sign all applicable documentation and administration forms for verification purposes.
- Communicate with process operators, sanitation leaders and supervisors as needed.
- Understand and comply with a strict company Lock-Out Tag-Out safety policy.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
While performing the duties of this job, you are regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
You are required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to read and comprehend MSDS sheets, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one or group situations to other employees of the organization.
Education and/or Experience
High school education or equivalency.
Minimum of one-month related work experience or training
Experience working in a manufacturing environment is an asset
Classifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must obtain and maintain WHMIS Certification. This certification and training will be provided by the company.
