Job Description Summary

This position installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, pipe and electrical systems and mechanical systems such as motors and pneumatic tools, conveyer systems and production machines. The position will support the Boiler and Refrigeration mechanic position in the operation of all utility systems, and will include accomplishing the daily hands on operation and maintenance of the chemical treatment systems on all the utility equipment. This includes performing all testing and recordkeeping to ensure proper performance. This position provides problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities in dealing with equipment performance, equipment maintenance, product quality, training and equipment improvement

Job Description

  • Responsible for supporting the safe operation, troubleshooting, repairing and maintenance of the plant’s Utility systems. This includes the Boilers, Ammonia Refrigeration System, Air Compressor System, and all other Utility systems.

  • Responsible for daily water chemistry tests and adjustments on each water system within the utility area. This includes the Boiler water and pretreatment systems, Condensers and Cooling tower, Chilled and Hot water loops.

  • Must become proficient and fully understand the water chemistry process and equipment related to these systems within 3 months.

  • Must become proficient and fully understand the operation of the Boilers and Ammonia Refrigeration system within 2 years.

  • Must attend any related training made available and reach a certification level within 2 years.

  • Must be able to spot problems with mechanical and electrical systems and effectively correct repairs.

  • Must keep operator and maintenance logs and be able to become proficient at using the plant Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to write Work Orders, order parts, complete PM routes, and enter equipment history.

  • Must perform corrective or emergency maintenance checks and correct problems in a timely manner to minimize line downtimes.

  • Execute Preventative Maintenance activities as assigned. Help develop effective work plans and enhanced preventative maintenance plans.

  • Must exhibit mechanical and electrical aptitude, capable of working independently and in a group setting

  • Must be proficient in all sanitation practices and food safety practices.

  • Must take ownership of the Boiler and Ammonia Refrigeration systems, but be flexible enough to assist other maintenance personnel in other areas of the plant if emergencies arise.

  • Applicability of job levels varies by location and is determined by the plant skills matrix.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Lock-out/Tag-out, Forklift, and Sanitation certification are required. If you are not qualified, you will be trained and must meet certification requirements.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience driving forklift in warehouse or manufacturing establishment preferred.

  • Must be able to be qualified within time frames established by facility.

  • Ability to perform basic math functions, required.

  • Effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing. Ability to understand instructions and follow directions in English (both written and oral) (Requirement may vary by location).

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer operation knowledge, data entry skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs

Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $28.12
